the house on the hill

Light.

We’ve been discovering the history of this house slowly but surely- like a buried secret.  You know those things of the past that you really want to know?  Like what your parents were like in college or what sort of clothes they wore or what adventures they’ve lived out that they won’t tell us about?  Discovering this home and its reputation has been kind of like that.

It’s been notoriously known as a drug house in its past.  On a few occasions there were police raids and arrests along the way.  The house used to be divided into at least four apartments.  When I hear about these things the only thing I can think about is that this house has needed a new identity and a new life for a long time.  Often that’s how our own lives are as well.  They need a remodel.  A new identity and a full gutting that only Someone else can do because we lack the knowledge and wisdom to do it ourselves.

I think the light that is in this house has so much more to do with the life that is being lived rather than just all the wonderful windows.  But regardless, this view will never get old.

Nor will impromptu fashion shows that happen on my front lawn.  These women were resting under the shade for a good 20 minutes while pulling their clothing purchases out of their bags and laughing together.

And the garden.  Oh, the garden.  I think we would spend all our time piddling out there if there wasn’t a whole lot of other things to do.  She’s growing, and she’s growing fast!

I love this life.  All the stress, the prayers and the process really have made this way more worth it.  Words can never explain in full.

the new roommate.

Meet Brackett.  I’m not sure if his name includes one “t” or two.  I’m a good roommate aren’t I?

H
e doesn’t have his own room and eventually he’s going to be big enough to rule this roost from top to bottom.  At just over 3 months old and 22 pounds, he’s already like wrestling a small toddler to the ground.  Loud noises scare him and he loves water.  If you want to hear Sara giggle, just ask about Brackett blowing bubbles in the water.  When he’s really exhausted, he sleeps on his back or side like this and spreads out all his paws.  He is also in every way a boy.  I love that about him.

This little pup has a whole lot going for him, you can just tell he’ll be a force when he’s big enough (which at this rate will be by the end of the summer).   Our house on the hill needs this guy to reach his full potential of friend, guardian and roommate.  So far, he’s learning and growing quickly.

Now if only the neighbor pups would befriend him.  Someday, he’ll be big enough to be very convincing.

quotes of the day

while explaining this blog to one of my roommates, she seemed a bit nervous to write on it.  i told her that she could put pictures or even just funny quotes from the day. . . so here is a perfect example from today.

today while driving to the farmers market i saw a bumper sticker that said “kansas city, kansas. no place for amatuers.”

then later in the afternoon a friend visited with her two sons.  one is 15 years old and stated after a tour of the house, “this house is EPIC!”

both of those quotes made me smile!
